The Machine Learning and Inference Laboratory has moved to the GMU Department of Health Administration and Policy.

 

Our poster for the paper "The Natural Induction System AQ21 and Its Application to Data Describing Patients with Metabolic Syndrome: Initial Results" by Wojtusiak, J., Michalski, R. S., Simanivanh, T. and Baranova, A. V. received the best poster award at the International Conference on Machine Learning and Applications, ICMLA, Cincinnati, OH, December 13-15, 2007.

On July 16, 2007, Dr. Ryszard Michalski, Endowed Professor and Director of the CHHS/Provost's Office Center for Discovery Science and Health Informatics, received the Officer's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland, awarded to him by the President of Poland Lech Kaczynski. This high honor was bestowed on him in recognition of his body of scientific work and his facilitation of collaborative works between scientists in Poland and the United States.

 

On May 1, 2007, the Laboratory has become a part of the Center for Discovery Science and Health Informatics (DSHI).

On January 25, 2004, Dr. Bartlomiej Sniezynski, joined MLI as a Visting Postdoctoral Researcher.

 

On February 11, 2003, Professor R.S. Michalski was awared a U.S. patent #6,518,988 for the "Non-Darwinian Learnable Evolution Model". It was the first patent for the School of Computational Sciences, and the school honored him by issuing a special plague.

New Ph.D. students, Ying Cao, Swarvanu Dasgupta, Jaroslaw Pietrzykowski and Janusz Wojtusiak, joined the Machine Learning and Inference Laboratory in September, 2002

 

On July 1, 2002, Dr. Menas Kafatos, Professor of Interdisciplinary Science and Director of The Center for Earth Observing and Space Research, became Dean of the School of Computational Sciences.

The MLI co-organized, in collaboration with the Professor Pavel Brazdil's Research Group at the University of Porto, the 5th International Workshop on Multistrategy Learning in June 3-5, 2000 in Guimaraise, Portugal.

 

On April 28, 2000, the CSI Executive Council has approved the MLI Laboratory proposal to establish a new Ph.D. concentration entitled: Computational Intelligence and Knowledge Mining.

 

On August 25, 2000, the Machine Learning and Inference Laboratory moved administratively from the School of Information Technology and Engineering to the newly established School of Computational Sciences at George Mason University.

 

In April, 2001, Ryszard Michalski gave a tutorial presentation at the 5th Pacific-Asia Conference on Knowledge Discovery in Static and Dynamic Databases.
