2002 "Cheap Shows"

January: The Royal Tenenbaums. Overrated by the critics, but nice to know there can be families more screwed up than ours.
February: Collateral Damage. JJ saw this without me and reports that even for this type of film, the plot was a bit hard to swallow.
March: The Time Machine. Nice effects, a few good ideas, but overall shallow and disappointing.
April: Big Trouble. We laughed. Which was all this film intended to do.
May: Spider-Man. For the first 115 minutes, one of the best superhero films ever made. And for the last 5, an incredible stinker.
June: The Sum of All Fears. An entertaining thriller.
July: Road to Perdition. Dark tale with a can't-miss cast.
August: Signs. They managed to keep it quite spooky and gripping.
September: One Hour Photo. Robin Williams can play The Creepy Guy!
October: Red Dragon. Good film, but maybe a bad choice after September's pick. This made it two in a row about people knowing you a bit too well.
November: The Ring. As promised, a surprisingly good member of the scare-em genre. But I really wish I'd brought a cell phone in with me.
December: Star Trek: Nemesis. A so-so movie -- not nearly as hot as the Earl Grey it inspired JJ to order afterwards.
