1997 "Cheap Shows"

January: CANCELLED due to last minute change in theater schedule
Febuary: Star Wars and Dante's Peak. You presumbaly know about Star Wars; the new version had subtle, mainly atmospheric differences from the original form (with more modern effects). Dante was your typical disaster flick; didn't take an expert geologist to figure out who would live and who would die. Excellent effects of the town getting kaboomed.
March: The Empire Strikes Back. See February comments; the trilogy continues!
April: The Saint. A fun techno-thriller a la James Bond or Mission Impossible.
May: We split the ticket. I saw The Fifth Element, while JJ saw Fathers' Day. Fifth was a mind-bending futuristic action flick with a few memorable moments. Fathers' was cute, but its big drawback was that it didn't fully let Crystal and Williams strut their stuff.
June: A double feature of the expectedly silly Speed 2 and the wild and wooly Con Air.
July: Men in Black. We found it very funny. Listen closely or you'll miss lots of throw-away gags.
August: Conspiracy Theory. A real hoot, especially the first few minutes. But then, that's what they want us to think.
September: The Full Monty. Third straight one we found extremely funny, but we've nonetheless indefinitely tabled plans for Clothing-Optional Cheap Shows.
October: No movie; we were out of town.
November: Switchback. JJ went without me, and reports that it was a decent thriller with a few good twists.
December: Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Very entertaining tale of most Southern intrigue.
