Undoubtably, the most famous reptile on the islands is "Lonesome George," last
of his breed, and unwilling to mate with similar females.
Every few days, the giant tortoises at the
Darwin Station are fed. On
those occasions, quite a frenzy erupts!
One can also find large sea turtles occasionally coming ashore to lay eggs.
Even more prevalent on the islands are the marine iguanas. This one's
track is eerily similar to the one left by a bicycle.
Also common are the lava lizards that blend in so well with their
surroundings. You do well not to step on them, the iguanas, or the boobies!
