Grateful Dead

Alpine Valley, E. Troy WI, 6/21/85

Between 1982 and 1987, I lived out in the Midwest far from the tour stops the Dead made. As it turned out, this was the only show I saw over a 6 year period. Those were the days when you could make a 200 mile drive to Wisconsin on the day of the show, find out that lawn seats were available at the box office, but still get a reserved for less than cost from someone who was selling them.

I had a great time there, good enough that when I couldn't find a motel room that side of the Illinois border, I decided that I was full enough of nutritious music that I didn't even have to go the next night. Unquestionably, the musical highlight was GDTRFB, one of the hottest I've ever heard.
