Grateful Dead with Bruce Hornsby

Capital Centre, Landover MD, 3/18/93

Bruce Hornsby was a surprise visitor for most of the second set (all but Wave to the Wind and Drums). He played all accordion, no piano. Not only that, but he appeared to be the one leading the band for much of the set, even if they were playing the usual Dead songs. I've never heard a China Cat / Rider like the one they opened the set with, that's how powerful Bruce's presence was. (That's not to say that I haven't heard a better one, but its uniqueness makes it, and that whole tape one of my favorites.)
