23rd International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML'06), Carnegie Mellon University (CMU),July 25-29, 2006.

The first workshop on Machine Learning, which initiated the series of ICML conferences, was held at CMU, in July 1980, and was organized by J. Carbonell, R.S. Michalski, and T. Mitchell. On the occasion of the return of the machine learning conference to CMU after 26 years, Ryszard Michalski gave an address to the participants at the conference banquet in which he brielfy described the events that led to the organization of the first Machine Learning workshop and to the first book on Machine Learning that started the field of Machine Learning. Jaime Carbonell then gave a brief historical review of the trends and directions in Machine Learning.

Unlesss indicated otherwise, the photos from ICML'06 were made by Ralf Brown (they were selected from http://www.pbase.com/ralf/image).
